MEZA Health For Schools
Empowering minds: Creating Inclusive and Flourishing learning environments
Meza supports schools in addressing students’ mental health needs. We offer tailored counseling services for educational institutions, including on-campus programs, workshops, and collaboration with school counselors and administrators.
We start by offering immediate assistance to the adults within the school community, as their wellness and active participation are fundamental to fostering a positive school culture and enriching learning experiences. Our initiatives are designed to guide school personnel, administrators, and educators in managing stress, reducing reactivity, and overcoming detrimental habits. We help them rediscover their strengths, heal from stress, and cultivate a mindset of
intentionality, groundedness, and full presence, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being and effectiveness of the school environment for children in Kenya.
The Problem
Kenyan schools are grappling with a profound mental health crisis affecting both teachers and students, and existing solutions have proven inadequate. Teachers are experiencing burnout at alarming rates, leading to attrition from the profession, while students are confronted with escalating levels of anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma leading to absenteeism, high drop out rates, lack of transition to the next classes among other challenges.

Data from Kenya
Research conducted in Kenya reveals a significant prevalence of mental health issues among children and adolescents in schools, ranging from 10% to 50.5%. The incidences of tragic events, such as suicides, student unresst and other distressing occurrences, underscore the urgent need for comprehensive mental health interventions within our educational systems.

The Unaddressed Needs
Many children in Kenya are silently battling mental health challenges like grief, anxiety, toxic relationships, post-traumatic stress disorders, and substance use disorders. The prevailing school curriculum inadequately equips them with essential coping skills or an understanding of mental health issues, leaving them vulnerable to life’s harsh realities.

A Vision for Change
We propose integrating a structured mental health interventions into primary and secondary school curricula, delivered by professional counsellors in school se up. This proactive approach aims to normalize discussions around mental health, reducing stigma, and promoting early intervention and treatment-seeking behaviors.

Proposed Solution
It’s important to separate mental health from traditional guidance and counseling services, recognizing the broader scope and impact of mental health on overall well-being.
